Michael McMahon, a former City Councilman and U.S. Congressman with wide-ranging support from law-enforcement unions, handily defeated career Manhattan prosecutor Joan Illuzzi last week for Staten Island District Attorney.
Unofficial results had Mr. McMahon beating Ms. Illuzzi by 55 percent to 45 percent, with the margin of victory surprising given the perception in the latter days of the campaign that Ms. Illuzzi, the Republican nominee, had the momentum in the GOP’s one city stronghold.
