Elected officials, education advocates and parent activists called for more input in decisions related to the city’s public schools during a March 15 State Senate New York City education committee hearing on renewing mayoral control.
In January, Governor Cuomo proposed a three-year extension. But at the lower Manhattan hearing before Senators John C. Liu, Robert Jackson and Velmanette Montgomery, while a few advocates wholly supported the renewal, many raised concerns about the governance structure, including a belief that parents had no voice.
