City officials and supporters of Mayor de Blasio continued last week to oppose Governor Cuomo’s proposal to place low-performing schools into receivership as they emphasized advances made under the Mayor’s “Renewal Schools” program.
As a dozen members of the City Council’s Education Committee approved a resolution March 19 calling for the State Legislature to eliminate Mr. Cuomo’s proposal from the budget, due for a vote before the end of the month, Mr. de Blasio said a state-led erosion of mayoral control over city schools would be “a formula for disaster.”
