Mayor de Blasio’s new budget contains a $100-million increase for the Department of Correction, including the hiring of 567 additional officers, but he said it was “going to take time” to fix the troubled agency.
“This is one where I am not promising people a rose garden,” he told reporters during a question-and-answer session following his announcement of his budget proposal Jan. 21. “This is a tough, tough situation. But there is clearly progress, and we’re going to keep investing until we get it right.”
