As early as next week, about 14,000 retired Teachers will receive back pay following a recent ruling by arbitrator Martin F. Scheinman, who ordered the Department of Education to give them the money “forthwith” in exchange for a one-month extension of the length of the United Federation of Teachers contract and a slight restructuring of pay raises scheduled to be implemented in 2018.
