District Council 37 Local 1549 has cut staff pay and some stipends to members after its international union nullified a vote to raise dues because it was taken on a stormy day in February, according to President Eddie Rodriguez.
Three months ago, members of the local, which represents clerical and administrative city workers, approved a motion to raise dues by 44 percent. That vote was later overruled by American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees President Lee Saunders, according to correspondence made available to this newspaper. Mr. Rodriguez said the local is declining to hold another vote until it settles a wage contract with the city.
