Librarians and their supporters threw the book at Mayor de Blasio last week, charging his recent budget proposal would continue to starve the city’s library system.
Though significant job losses aren’t threatened, as they have been in previous years, DC 37 members said the institutions are still facing crises because of previous cutbacks and attrition. This year, library workers are seeking an additional $65 million to hire more than 800 employees, deliver six-day service, offer more programs and expand wi-fi access.
