Legislature OKs Panel On Misconduct by DAs

A bill that would create a commission to investigate prosecutorial misconduct was passed by the State Legislature last week despite opposition from District Attorneys who said it was unnecessary.

If Governor Cuomo signs it into law, it would establish a State Commission on Prosecutorial Conduct that would enforce accountability for prosecutors. The commission, which would have subpoena power, would be required to make its decisions public. It could admonish or suspend prosecutors, or recommend that the Governor remove them.
