Gregory Lasak, a retired state judge who was previously a top deputy to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown, has announced his candidacy for that office.
Mr. Brown, 85, has said he will not decide until next year whether he will seek an eighth term. He has been DA since he was appointed in 1991 to replace John Santucci, who resigned amid corruption allegations.
