Key Democrats Laud Bloomberg Opting Out Of White House Run

Former Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s announcement March 7 that he would not run for President on a third-party line because he feared his candidacy could hurt Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton and lead to the election of either Donald Trump or U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz was not a shock to union and elected officials, who envisioned the same scenario.

“I thought it was a great move,” American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten said in a phone interview three days later. “The allegiance to the country became more important than any personal ambition.”
