A State Supreme Court Justice in Manhattan ordered the de Blasio administration to hand over demographic and payroll records for thousands of city managers, Communications Workers of America Local 1180 said last week.
Justice Shlomo S. Hagler’s May 4 order followed a determination last month by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission that said the city should pay $246 million to cover lost wages and damages for current and former Administrative Managers, who are mostly women and minorities. Local 1180 argued that salaries for those members, who work across multiple city agencies, had been held well below the inflation rate since 1978 while the senior supervisors, often white males, were promoted into higher-paying titles. The two parties must reach a settlement to avoid a potential Federal lawsuit against the city.
