A Federal Judge in Manhattan has ruled that the Trump Administration cannot withhold U.S. Department of Justice public-safety grants from municipalities and states, including New York, that do not comply with the administration’s decrees regarding immigrants living in the country illegally.
New York City, New York State and six other states—all of them so-called sanctuary jurisdictions—sued the Federal Government in July to block DOJ directives that obliged state and local law enforcement to comply with immigration directives or risk losing the grant monies.
