Judge Gives Operators’ NYPD Race-Bias Suit Class-Action Status

A Federal Judge last week granted class-action status to a lawsuit brought by 911 operators who claimed their white supervisors discriminated against them.

The operators’ legal challenge, filed in 2013, accused their bosses of forcing them to work 12-hour shifts without breaks and alleged that supervisors made racially-motivated insults. In her Sept. 28 order, U.S. District Judge Pamela K. Chen dismissed some of their charges, but said there was enough basis to allow the discrimination claims to proceed.
