The decision by Transport Workers Union Local 100 to cut a deal with New York City Transit to sub-contract "deep-cleaning" work for stations and subway cars is being blasted as "appeasement" by the two men who last year ran unsuccessfully against Local 100 President Tony Utano.
His rivals, Tramell Thompson and Joseph Campbell, maintained in phone interviews that the union’s memorandum of understanding with management was unwise because it would make it easier for the agency to eventually get rid of union Cleaners, something they believe has been a longtime goal of the agency.
