A senior personnel director at the Health and Hospitals Corporation was fined $12,000 by the Conflicts of Interest Board for asking co-workers to find a job for a family member and helping to promote her daughter’s underqualified domestic partner.
Gloria Velez, the Senior Director for Human Resources, admitted the nepotism in a disposition released March 30. Before she retired last October, she was responsible for overseeing hiring, benefits and labor-relations issues for employees in HHC’s central office.
