HA Monitor Selection On Hold While Judge Balks on 'Consent' Fix

The Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s office has extended the deadline for the appointment of a monitor to oversee reforms at the troubled Housing Authority until a Federal Judge approves the consent decree under which the de Blasio administration agreed to invest at least $2 billion in the agency over five years, it announced Sept. 12.

The Mayor agreed to the monitor in order to end the Federal investigation of HA’s non-compliance with lead-paint laws. The scathing complaint written by U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman also described a culture of mismanagement at the HA, as well as conditions such as broken elevators and heating equipment, mold problems and pests that have plagued the almost-400,000 New Yorkers who live in public housing.
