Gun-Permit-Secrecy Suit May Continue: Judge

A Federal Judge on Oct. 1 accepted only part of State Attorney General Barbara Underwood’s request to dismiss a lawsuit challenging a law making the names of handgun-holders part of the public record, meaning the suit may go forward.

The lawsuit was filed by Washington, D.C. attorney Charles Cooper in 2016 on behalf of two residents of Putnam County who did not want the fact that they owned handguns released to the Journal News, a newspaper that covers the Hudson Valley area.
