At promotion ceremonies Jan. 30, Police Commissioner James P. O’Neill upgraded two officers to Deputy Chief and 81 to Sergeant. Twenty-five civilian employees were also promoted.
The first new Deputy Chief, Raymond Caroli, is commanding officer of the Police Academy. He joined the NYPD in January 1986. He has also commanded the 6th Precinct and the Firearms & Tactics Section. He has served as executive officer of the 6th and 10th precincts and the Patrol Borough Manhattan South Task Force.
