Public Advocate Tish James hit some turbulence during her State Attorney General debate with Republican challenger Keith Wofford Oct. 30 that went beyond pronouncing his name “Wueford” even as her opponent made clear it was pronounced “Woofford” and the two moderators repeatedly used that pronunciation as well.
Running for the position of the state’s chief law-enforcement officer, she was more intent on projecting emotion than the dispassion that should go with the job when asked by Liz Benjamin, the Albany-based host of Capital Tonight, whether she favored the death penalty for Robert Bowers, the man arrested for allegedly murdering 11 people in a Pittsburgh synagogue Oct. 27.
