It’s had a hard time mastering low-tech tasks like replacing light bulbs in housing-project stairwells and taking elevators in hazardous condition out of service and repairing them quickly, but the Housing Authority last week was honored by the Middle Atlantic Regional Council of the National Association of Housing and Development Officials for Outstanding Achievement in Administrative Innovation, the HA announced April 28.
It was cited for its mobile digital vans—computer labs on wheels that are equipped with eight laptops, a printer/scanner, wireless Internet and an instructor—which visit 18 developments biweekly; the self-service portal that allows public-housing residents and applicants as well as Section 8 voucher-holders to complete many transactions online; and its MyNYCHA app that lets residents create service requests online, setting and rescheduling repair dates.
