Sal Albanese, the former Brooklyn City Council Member whose third campaign for the Democratic nomination for Mayor had been conducted largely below the radar, surfaced last week by asking City Comptroller Scott Stringer to release details of the legal-defense bills rung up by aides to Mayor de Blasio during the recently concluded state and Federal probes into his political fund-raising activities.
In a letter to Mr. Stringer, Mr. Albanese noted that Corporation Counsel Zachary Carter had recently stated that legal fees would be paid to 11 different outside law firms that provided counsel to, among others, Mr. de Blasio’s top political adviser, Emma Wolfe, his chief fund-raiser, Ross Offinger, and Josh Gold, a political operative who previously worked for both the Hotel and Trades Council and Local 1199 of the Service Employees International Union, as well as in John Liu’s successful 2009 run for Comptroller.
