Weekends are often slow times for news, and that probably explains why Daily News Albany bureau chief Ken Lovett opted to improvise for the paper’s Oct. 15 print edition with a story pointing out that the Yankees have never won a World Championship over the 20 years in which Mario and Andrew Cuomo have been Governor, while they won five titles during the 16 years in between.
The piece, under the headline, “Yanks hit by curse of Cuomo,” noted that their ouster from the playoffs Oct. 9 by the Red Sox guaranteed that Andrew Cuomo would end his eighth year as Governor without a World Championship in The Bronx, after a 12-year drought during Mario Cuomo’s tenure. The team, which has won the World Series 27 times, did not even qualify for it while they served.
