The longtime head of the Abyssinian Baptist Church, Rev. Calvin Butts, caused a stir at City Hall last week when he led a delegation there to demand that Mayor de Blasio fire Police Officer Daniel Pantaleo, the cop who used an apparent chokehold in the struggle that led to Eric Garner’s death last July, as well as calling for him to dial back the NYPD’s “Broken Windows” policing and stop-and-frisks.
Unless the Mayor did so, Reverend Butts said, he and his colleagues would look hard at endorsing someone else when Mr. de Blasio seeks re-election in 2017.
