No bird of grace ever lit on Donald Trump, as the President once again reminded us last week when his lack of a bedside manner moved to tears the pregnant widow of a soldier killed earlier this month in Niger.

Even before his clumsy condolence call to Myeshia Johnson, whose husband, Army Sgt. La David Johnson, was among four Green Berets who were killed in an ambush Oct. 4, Mr. Trump had stirred controversy in responding to a reporter’s question Oct. 16 about why he hadn’t spoken about them. He said that he had written letters to their families and planned to eventually call them, then remarked, “If you look at President Obama and other Presidents, most of them didn’t make calls.”
