Call it a Tale of Two Administrations. Even as New Yorkers gave Mayor de Blasio low marks for his handling of the police and their relationship with the community, his Police Commissioner, Bill Bratton, continued to gain luster in their eyes, as by a nearly 2-to-1 margin they approved of his performance—a 22-point improvement over his rating at the end of last year.
The poll by Quinnipiac University further bolsters Mr. Bratton’s standing in his battle with City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito over her attempt to decriminalize numerous quality-of-life offenses, and with other critics who claim the “Broken Windows” policing strategy unfairly targets blacks and Latinos.
