Public Advocate Letitia James continued walking a tightrope in declaring her candidacy for State Attorney General May 16, saying that she would compete in the Democratic primary while denying that she decided not to seek the Working Families Party nomination due to pressure from Governor Cuomo.
It would be hard, however, to find a reason for shunning the WFP other than Mr. Cuomo’s desire to drive it into the political wilderness because of its endorsement of his own Democratic primary challenger, Cynthia Nixon. Ms. James first gained elected office running solely on the WFP line for City Council in 2003, easily defeating her Democratic opponent.
