Was Andrew Cuomo’s recent remark that America “was never that great,” widely regarded as a political gaffe and eventually acknowledged by the Governor himself to be “inartful,” an observation born less of his own experience than his father’s?
In trying to backtrack and explain while simultaneously staying on the offensive against President Trump—the target of the controversial comment—Mr. Cuomo spoke of a false nostalgia for a time when gays and people of color were victims of blatant discrimination and women were subordinate to men.
