With a few weeks to go in the rough-and-tumble campaign that will decide who leads the Uniformed Firefighters Association, the slate led by incumbent Vice President Gerard Fitzgerald is making the bigoted social-media posts by retired Firefighter Kenny Specht a major issue.
One campaign flyer issued by Mr. Fitzgerald’s slate was a partial reprint of a New York Post story from last month headlined “Ex FDNYer Running For Union Boss Under Fire For Bigoted Posts.” The story described Mr. Specht’s social-media posts as being rife with “racist, sexist and anti-Semitic rants.”
