Accepting 52 free tickets to the 2014 Super Bowl at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium cost a Firefighter $4,000, the Conflicts of Interest Board announced.
John Curatolo was assigned to an FDNY command tent at the 13-block “Super Bowl Boulevard” in Times Square, held during the week-long lead-up to the February 2014 championship. The night before the game, a National Football League community-relations official who needed to distribute the tickets gave them to Mr. Curatolo, then a 23-year veteran. He kept one ticket and gave away at least 21 to FDNY superiors, including a Deputy Chief, three Battalion Chiefs, a Captain and a Lieutenant, according to the COIB.
