Firefighters are used to rushing into fire trucks and slamming the door behind them. Lately, though, several have crushed their thumbs in the doors of a newly-designed rig—and they say its poor design is to blame.
Five firefighters filed notices of claim in Brooklyn Supreme Court last month charging that the pumper trucks, designed by Kovatch Mobile Equipment, had a dangerous flaw: an inside handle that was too close to the doorjamb and invited injury. Their notices serve to warn the city of an impending lawsuit.
