What started years ago as a commemoration by FDNY firefighters for colleagues who died on 9/11, up at the Firemen’s Monument on Riverside Drive, has grown into an international event, as evidenced by the turnout last week.
Close to 2,000 members of the FDNY and family members turned out on the morning of Sept. 11. They were joined by delegations from fire departments around the country and the world.
