For the fourth consecutive year, the City Council at the 11th hour saved 20 fire companies whose funding Mayor Bloomberg had eliminated in his proposed budget. As in previous years, the Council, led by Speaker Christine Quinn and Fire and Criminal Justice Services Committee Chair Elizabeth Crowley, used its discretionary budget to fund the companies.
