The Board of Collective Bargaining upbraided a Fire Chief last month for retaliating against firefighters for their union activity by assigning them to less-desirable positions.
The decision comes after a three-year fight by the Uniformed Firefighters Association, whose president, Steve Cassidy, in an interview last week laid the blame largely on then-Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano for allowing the behavior. The BCB also faulted Battalion Chief Keith Cartica for disparaging the union to firefighters; he warned them that complaining to the UFA would do no good.
