The Board of Collective Bargaining unanimously ruled Feb. 2 that the Health and Hospitals Corporation violated collective-bargaining laws when supervisors in Brooklyn retaliated against members of Local 30 of the International Union of Operating Engineers.
The local brought its complaint in May 2012 on behalf of Oilers at Kings County Hospital Center who were removed from evening, overnight, weekend and holiday shifts—called off-watches—which it said left the hospital understaffed and endangered patients. The workers are responsible for lubricating and maintaining heavy machinery.
