The head of the Vulcan Society of Black Firefighters last week expressed disbelief and frustration that Joseph Cassano, the Emergency Medical Technician son of former Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano, would be rejoining the department on July 13. He resigned in March 2014 over a series of ugly tweets about people of color, Jews, women and the poor.
“This Administration has been vocal, not overly [so], but they’ve been vocal about their plans of diversity and inclusion,” Vulcan President Regina Wilson said, referring to the leadership of Commissioner Cassano’s successor, Daniel Nigro.
