The FDNY welcomed into its ranks 295 probationary Firefighters on Nov. 6, including four women—raising the total number of female firefighters to 49, the most in its history.
The graduating class includes 35 military veterans, and two sons of firefighters who died on Sept. 11. It is made up of 40 percent people of color: 17.7-percent black, 19.7-percent Latino and 2.4-percent Asian.
