State Senate Majority Dean Skelos struggled mightily to hold onto that post following his arrest on Federal corruption charges, but he gave it up May 11 at a meeting of the Senate Republican Caucus.
Senators at the meeting—which was still going on as this paper went to press—chose Sen. John Flanagan, like Mr. Skelos a Long Islander, to replace him.
