Former State Senate Majority Leader Malcolm Smith and former Queens Republican Vice Chairman Vincent Tabone were convicted Feb. 5 of plotting to bribe city GOP leaders to allow Mr. Smith to run in their 2013 mayoral primary.
Mr. Smith, 57, who was defeated in last year’s State Senate primary by former City Councilman Leroy Comrie, was convicted of bribery conspiracy, wire fraud and use of interstate facilities to commit bribery and extortion. Mr. Tabone, 48, was convicted of bribery conspiracy, wire fraud, use of interstate facilities to commit bribery and witness-tampering.
