Labor unions and the Working Families Party have backed Rebecca Lynch, a former City Hall staffer, against several emerging candidates vying to fill a recently vacated City Council seat, including a former Assemblyman backed by the Queens Democratic establishment.
The 23rd Council District—which encompasses neighborhoods on the borough’s eastern border including Queens Village, Bellerose, Glen Oaks and Jamaica Estates—has been without representation since last month, when Mark Weprin departed to serve as Governor Cuomo’s Deputy Secretary of Legislative Affairs.
