Ex-Cop Faces 1-to-3 Behind Bars in Plea To Insurance Fraud

A former city cop was convicted last week of a scheme to defraud auto-insurance companies through a series of false claims.

The officer, Jose E. Urena, was attempting to free himself “from financial responsibility for high-end vehicles he couldn’t afford, to pocket insurance money for personal use, to pay for repairs of pre-existing damage and to add expensive features to various vehicles,” said the office of State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.
