A former Child-Protective Specialist at the Administration for Children’s Services was convicted last week of fabricating a visit to the home of a troubled child, according to the Department of Investigation. Police arrested Mimi Allen Sept. 8 for logging the fictitious check-in the same July 2013 day the mother of the child was in the hospital giving birth.
Child Protective Specialists investigate allegations of child abuse and neglect by conducting field visits and interviewing family members, school employees and neighbors. They are also expected to go to court to seek the removal of children from troubled homes and can manage an average of 12 to 15 cases at the same time, according to ACS.
