Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota has hired Alan Vinegrad, a former Interim U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District who was the lead prosecutor in the assault by Police Officer Justin Volpe on Abner Louima, to represent him in an ongoing Federal investigation, according to news reports.
Since leaving the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Mr. Vinegrad has become a prominent white-collar defense attorney. He is a partner in the firm of Covington & Burling.
