City Health and Mental Hygiene Commissioner Mary T. Bassett will step down from the role at the end of the month, shortly after the agency came under scrutiny for reporting only a fraction of the children living in public housing who tested positive for elevated blood-lead levels.
Mayor de Blasio praised Ms. Bassett, who has worked at DOHMH since 2002 and was appointed Commissioner in 2014, for bringing equity “to the forefront of public health.”
