Educating de Blasio: Say Literacy, Common Core Are Keys to Success

A focus on literacy, better implementation of the new Common Core curriculum and better college and career guidance should be priorities of incoming Mayor Bill de Blasio’s education administration, according to a report from the New School’s Center for New York City Affairs.

State Board of Regents Chancellor Merryl Tisch spoke at the report’s unveiling and said that while the Bloomberg administration had made significant educational gains in its 12 years, she hoped the acrimony between Mayor Bloomberg and the United Federation of Teachers would not carry over for his successor.
