A retired Department of Education employee was ordered to repay $55,747 to the Board of Education Retirement System for double-dipping, City Comptroller Scott Stringer said in a recent report.
The employee, who was unnamed, earned $80,215 in 2014 as an Associate Supervisor of School Security for the NYPD while also collecting $30,018 in pension overpayments. BERS, which includes non-pedagogical DOE employees, discovered another $25,000 wrongly paid in 2013 and 2015 and took steps to recoup the money.
