109 Detectives Among 279 NYPD Promotions

Police Commissioner James P. O’Neill promoted 208 officers, including an Assistant Chief, and 71 civilians, among them a retired Detective who is a well-regarded author, in a recent ceremony at Police Headquarters.

Donna G. Jones, commander of the Criminal Justice Bureau, was promoted to Assistant Chief.  The third black woman in NYPD history to reach that rank, she joined the department in January 1982. She has also commanded the Career Enhancement Unit, the Performance Analysis Section and the Communications Division. A lawyer, she is married to retired Assistant Chief Demosthenes Long.
