Despite Indictment, Postal Unions Supporting Grimm

Indicted U.S. Congressman Michael Grimm may have been abandoned by National Republican Congressional Committee fund-raisers in his bid to retain his Staten Island seat, but at least he can still count on a small group of local boosters who typically lean Democrat: postal unions.

“He’s been in our corner on six-day delivery and door-to-door delivery, which they’ve been trying to knock out of the box,” said Paul Alexander, the president of the Staten Island branch of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He was referring to services that many House Republicans—and USPS officials—want to eliminate to control costs at the debt-laden U.S. Postal Service.
