An appeals court last week upheld a lower-court judge’s decision that records of the grand jury that decided not to indict a police officer in the death of Eric Garner should remain secret. Disappointed advocates said they would bring the case to the state’s highest court.
“The public deserves to know what happened with that grand jury and why what we saw with our eyes did not match the failure to indict those responsible for Eric Garner’s death,” Public Advocate Letitia James said in a statement after the decision was released July 29.
