For the second time in the last three weeks, an MTA Bus Operator has been slashed or assaulted by a passenger in The Bronx who then fled on foot, the NYPD and union officials said.
The latest attack happened in the early-morning hours of Aug. 2 in the northeast section of The Bronx, when an MTA bus driver on the Bx21 route was scratched and punched by an angry passenger who demanded a free ride. The driver, as per MTA policy, tried to avoid confrontation by ignoring the demand. The suspect, described as a six-foot-tall Hispanic male, allegedly distracted the driver by trying to show him a piece of paper with an address on it and then punched him in the face. The attacker then ran off.
