Mayor de Blasio Jan. 6 assembled a legion of labor leaders to help push his plan to raise taxes on city residents making more than $500,000 a year to pay for universal pre-kindergarten and expanded after-school programs, brushing off Governor Cuomo’s offer of state money for pre-K services and saying it was crucial that the funding come from a dedicated source.
The Mayor’s press conference came at virtually the same time that the Governor presented a series of tax cuts as the foundation of his 2014 budget agenda; his proposal for statewide funding of pre-K was made two days later in his State of the State speech.
